Winter Fruit Tree Pruning Workshop

9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Jan. 19.  Free. Sacramento County master gardeners will demonstrate winter pruning of deciduous fruit trees, blueberries, cane berries, grape vines and landscape trees.  Visitors also can learn how herbs enhance landscapes and how to garden in a small yard. Bring gardening questions to the Ask the Master Gardener table. Fair Oaks Horticulture Center, 11549 Fair Oaks Blvd., Fair Oaks. Open Garden at the Fair Oaks Horticulture Center

9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Feb. 9. At 10 a.m., mini talks by the UCCE master gardeners will include annual and perennial herbs, cane pruning grapes, and building a hot compost pile. Demonstrations throughout the morning will cover pruning fruit trees and ornamental grasses; starting new berry plants by tip rooting cane berries and layering blueberries; planning for late winter and early spring vegetables; dividing and transplanting strawberry crowns.  Also, bring your gardening questions to the Ask the Master Gardener table. 11549 Fair Oaks Blvd., Fair Oaks. sacmg.ucanr.edu

Sherwood Demonstration Garden

9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Feb. 9. The garden is now on its winter calendar, open to the public only the second Saturday of the month, until April. Site features 16 individual themed gardens designed around low-water, low-maintenance plants that do well in El Dorado County. No dogs allowed. Free Worm Composting Workshop

10 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Feb. 23. Learn the basics of worm composting from the UCCE master gardeners. Worm composting is neat, easy and odorless, ideal for indoor or outdoor locations. Composting Workshop
