Get growing with the Master Gardeners!

Learn the secrets of sunflowers during Open Garden Day on June 16

Help the Sacramento County Master Gardeners celebrate 20 years at the Fair Oaks Horticulture Center during a very busy (and free) Open Garden Day, 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, June 16.
Among the highlights will be a short seminar at 10 a.m. on how to grow sunflowers, a summer favorite and a must for Sacramento-area gardens. (The bees will thank you.)
Learn by doing as the University of California Cooperative Extension Master Gardeners tend their vegetable, herb and flower gardens, orchard, vineyard, water-efficient landscape and more. Other mini-demonstrations at 10 a.m. will be devoted to several popular topics such as composting and soil solarization.
See when is the right time to thin fruit, and when to harvest blueberries. Get pointers on pruning herbs and conquering pests.
Got questions? Bring them with a photo or sample in sealed plastic bag for identification and advice.
In Fair Oaks Park, the Fair Oak Horticulture Center is located at 11549 Fair Oaks Blvd., Fair Oaks. Details: http://sacmg.ucanr.edu/
