Hear Ann Evans, a farm-to-fork pioneer

She'll be the guest speaker at a meeting Thursday evening

Ann Evans changed the way California eats. And we are all happier and healthier for it.

The longtime clean-food advocate is a pioneer in the farm-to-fork movement. Co-founder of the Davis Farmers Market as well as the Davis Food Co-op,

Evans gardens, cooks and eats what she believes. Programs she developed, such as the Davis Farm to School Connection, serve as role models nationwide. She also co-wrote “The Davis Farmers Market Cookbook,” a wonderful collection of Yolo County’s bounty and the people who produce it.

On Thursday, June 28, Evans will present “The Power of the Plants on the Plate,” a snapshot of how making that local connection – be it homegrown or direct from a farmer – can have a powerful impact.

Evans will be the guest of the Sacramento Perennial Plant Club at the group’s June meeting at the Shepard Garden and Arts Center, 3330 McKinley Blvd., Sacramento; 916-823-5500. The meeting starts at 7 p.m.

A salad potluck at 6 p.m. is planned before the program. The public is welcome.
