Mixing (very old) politics with gardening and exercise
Two cemetery tours offer fresh views of political history
Are you a gardener with a love of history? Or a political junkie who could use some fresh air and exercise after the primaries? Learn a lot of California political lore while enjoying
a walk through one-of-a-kind gardens during two special tours this weekend (June 9 and 10) at Sacramento’s Historic City Cemetery. Both tours start at 10 a.m. at the main gate, 1000 Broadway, Sacramento. Street parking is available; admission is free.
On Saturday, June 9, meet “Mugwumps, Know-Nothings and Dolly Vardens” in a colorful exploration of California’s third-party movements and how they shaped our state.
On Sunday, June 10, follow “Capitol Connections,” with a who’s-who of politicians, state leaders and the politically connected who found their final resting place in the city’s oldest cemetery. Did you know a son of Alexander Hamilton is buried in Sacramento?
