Robin Stockwell, the author and nurseryman best known as The Succulent Guy, will be the special guest Saturday, June 16, at  High Hand Nursery’s Succulent Extravaganza.
At 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., Stockwell will present his introduction to the world of succulents. The lectures are free, but space is limited. To save a seat, register for either lecture online at www.highhand.com. (There will be standing room.)
In addition, Stockwell will sign copies of his new book, “Succulents: The Ultimate Guide to Choosing, Designing, and Growing 200 Easy Care Plants,” published by Sunset last year. The beautiful book is a comprehensive guide for beginners as well as longtime succulent fans.

A surfer turned succulents guru, Stockwell has been growing these plants professionally since 1973. He was attracted to succulents by their easy care and almost indestructibility.
Becoming a “showman” to sell his stock, Stockwell realized he could do things with succulents that  can't be done with other plants. He popularized vertical gardening with succulents and created wall gardens featuring aloes and echeverias.
Among his most memorable creations was the gigantic “living” globe he made for the San Francisco Flower and Garden Show. The globe, which had taken a year to grow, featured more than 30,000 cuttings.

For Succulent Extravaganza, High Hand will have a special succulents bar and hundreds of plants available for sale.   High Hand is located at 3750 Taylor Road, Loomis; 916-652-2065.
