It’s iris time in Sacramento! And to celebrate, the Sacramento Iris Society is hosting its annual show and sale this weekend at Shepard Garden and Arts Center in McKinley Park.

From 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, April 17 and 18, see bearded irises in eye-popping colors and combinations. Then take home some potted plants for your own garden.

Due to COVID, this year’s iris show will be somewhat scaled back. Instead of formal judging, the blooms will be for display only. But they’ll all be winners in stunning shades from pure white to near black.

The society will have scores of plants in hard-to-find varieties available for sale. As a bonus, other clubs have been invited to take part in the plant sale, including the Sacramento Perennial Plant Club. So expect to find some fantastic perennials, too.

Precautions will be taken to keep patrons safe and healthy, with most of the activity outdoors on the center’s patio. Visitors should wear face masks.
